Overview

Crookstadt was founded durring the late 13th century in spring of the year 1185, by Myfanwy Every. The establishment of Crookstadt was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Myfanwy Every struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Crookstadt as a prison colony.

Crookstadt was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Crookstadt is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Crookstadt is was constructed arround several spacious canals mainstreets which cross one another at certain axies, with smaller streets branching off of them to premit acess to the many buildings deeper into the road network. The overall fashion is remenessent of a circulatory system, or other organic construct, and is quite effishent in its design. The town is protected by a renforced stone fence which sits atop earthwork defences, for some of the best inexpencive defences a town of Crookstadt's size could have. The well-designed, yet cheep has suffered a visible ammount of structural damage, leaving them effectivly useless. One can't help but wonder why the has not yet effected repairs.

The town shows nothing out of the ordinary, at first glance. Then you start to notice all the small things. Each window has seven iron nails pounded into the sill. Every door has a sprig of holly overhead. Every well is branded with purity seals and runes to ward the contents. Everyone is carrying a small charm for safety or fortune, be it a rabbit’s foot, a horseshoe, or other little totems.

Cultural Notes

The locals are in a state of despair and dull apathy. They've lost the things that used to give them pride and hope, with the best among them carrying on out of habitual duty and the worst giving ready hands to shameful deeds and ignoble acts. No one really believes the future can be better, and most seek only to satisfy immediate appetites.

Crookstadt's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known primarily for its use of abstraction and simplicity. Clean lines, right angles, and primary colors characterized this aesthetic and art movement expressed via architecture and paintings. Its design ethos allows only primary colors and non-colors, only squares and rectangles, only straight and horizontal or vertical lines. Vertical and horizontal lines are positioned in layers or planes that do not intersect, thereby allowing each element to exist independently and unobstructed by other elements. These seemingly impossible principals for an architectural style coalesces into structures which most experts find hard to put into words. It is not that their geometry is impossible, but rather the style's attempt at producing works only describable visually was most successful..

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is short in Crookstadt.

The Amoeba, Giant near Crookstadt are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Crookstadt's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves sex to channel Mysticism energies of tier 2 via throat chanting.
